Experience
Having been a junior high math teacher for two decades, it's funny to think that I was once a film student aspiring to be the next Scorsese, but my wide-ranging interests have given me a broad base of experience to draw from when working with my students. I've taught students in all levels of math, from basic beginners to advanced, and part of what has enabled me to be successful is my unique approach. I utilize examples and ideas from a range of fields and areas like sports, film, history, and more to help students make connections that clarify the material and solidify their understanding. As unlikely as it may seem, even game shows and pop culture have helped some of my past students discover their untapped curiosity and become math enthusiasts. As a teacher and tutor, I spend a lot of time observing students' individual characteristics and learning styles so that I can develop the most effective approach to help them succeed, which gives them the confidence that they truly do understand and are capable of achieving their educational goals. While my expertise is primarily in math and related areas, I can also provide tutoring in the humanities as well. My free time is spent enjoying the outdoors, playing with my dog, and following the Yankees.
